⎆IMF Advocates for a Coordinated Global Crypto Policy
IMF has issued a call for global regulators to collaborate on a coordinated crypto policy in order to address the rapid growth of the industry. The full blog post regarding this can be found here; but it is imperative to know that crypto’s potential will directly reduce some functions of the IMF, meaning that while a need for a globally coordinated policy is real, one needs to take the IMF’s opinion with a grain of salt.
⎆Binance Paused Singapore Licensing Push
After investing in Singapore-based Hg Exchange, Binance halted its effort to acquire the appropriate crypto license in Singapore. CEO CZ tweeted that this is because pursuing the license after acquiring Hg Exchange is redundant. At the same time, the firm is slowly reducing its services in the country, with trading services to end on January 13. This sparks speculation that Singapore is no longer the primary candidate for Binance Global HQ.
⎆UAE’s Mubadala Investing in Crypto
Mubadala Investment Company, one of the world’s largest Sovereign Wealth Fund, has announced that it is looking at investments in the crypto ecosystem. Its MD, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, stated that the crypto is real and the firm is no longer skeptical of its potential. The Mubadala fund currently has $243 billion in AUM.
